Francesca Busca, an eco-artivist and mosaicist, transforms waste into "trashure," creating sustainable art that protests disposable lifestyles and offers new perspectives on rubbish. Her hopeful artworks, from waste to wonder, aim to spark constructive conversations and inspire systemic re-thinking.
Living a holistic eco-artivism, Francesca is vegan, uses renewable energy, wears second-hand clothes, avoids plastic, seeks local food, saves water, grows a garden, (...) and hasn't flown for four years.
A former City solicitor, Francesca graduated with distinction in Mosaic and Fine Arts from the London School of Mosaic in 2019, where she also lectured in 2021/22. She founded the Payment in Kind(ness)© initiative, accepting eco-friendly actions as payment for her artwork, and ArtforTrash©, creating art from clients' waste.
Francesca runs pro bono art projects on eco-awareness and sustainability with schools and organizations, collaborating with Living Streets, Salon Sustainability, Fernando Montaño, LIGCA, and The Camden Clean Air Initiative on Earthfest 2024. She is on retainer with the Institute of Marine Sciences in Venice and, since January 2025, regularly engages in eco-artivism with children as the art teacher at the Italian School in London (SIAL).
She is a regular contributor for periodicals both in the US and in Italy. A member of Insights Of An EcoArtist (IOAEA), ActforEaling, BAMM, Heritage Crafts, and Mensa, Francesca also supports multiple environmental organizations, donating 10% of her income from ArtforTrash commissions. Her quest is to turn shame into wonder, push the boundaries of mosaic and art, act as a catalyst, and provoke real change.
